Last part of the summer vacation (kinda)

When I uploaded these images to the blog it was still a week and a half left of my vacation. So I’m going to do one more “Last part of the summer” post before the summer is officially over and I start working (which is the 13th).

image

Bubble tea has become rather popular in Norway and I’m starting to like it. At least the ones with either milk, yoghurt, or slush.

image

I got a dinner for two at “Ett glass” from a friend of mine as a birthday gift. They burgers was very good, and so was their dessert too.

I have been wanted to buy myself a 3DS XL for quite some time now, and earlier this summer I bought myself the Pikachu edition you can see on the top. I had origianlly wanted the bottom one (Animal Crossing). Sadly they where all sold out, and the store said that it would not return. So I bought the Pikachu one. Then a couple of weeks later I got an e-mail from CDON that they had gotten the bottom one back on storage, so I went back and forth a week. But as you can see I ended up buying it. So now I have two XL’s! Did think I would ever buy two.

Lasagne, do I need to say more?

As you may know I play a miniature game called Heroclix, and this figure made a pretty cool shadow. Heroclix art?

One of my neighbours ride around on this cool bike.

The summer till now (not really)

This post was originally planned for 26th of June, but was never “released”. So here it is a bit late, but still about my summer.

image

I got a Fatboy for my balcony! It’s super comfortably and easy to move around, even though it takes a bit room. Luckily it can handle water.

image

I also visited the top of Oslo’s tallest building, the SAS hotel (not sure if it is still called that though).

image

In May I participated in Åpen Sone’s first game jam, and my friend and I came on first with the came Dark Room Escape. You need Löve2D to run it. We won a AI book and the movie Tron. I got the Tron film!

image

A lot happened in May. I was on a small hiking trip the night to the 17th (our national day) and my shoe where just torn apart. They where pretty old, and it looked like they had eroded over the winter…

image

so I ended up buying a new pair! Not Norwegian shoes, but leather! They are really good to walk in, and the tip is rounded to make the walking flow better.

image

When I was finished with my Master and got my grade, I got a little gift from my girlfriend. It was wrapped pretty cool if you ask me.

image

And this super cool and grown-up style man-bag was inside!

image

I solved my first 4x4x4 Rubiks cube (technically a Magic cube this one)!

image

My girlfriend had bought a little gift for me in USA when she where there this Christmas, but she forgot it at her sisters so I got it when she came back June. It’s Mad*D. Pretty sweet and tall!

image

The FatBoy wrapping. Even though it is a big box, it weigh next to nothing. So it was easy to carry it from the post office.

image

Made banana-split or what-ever it is called with M&M’s. *Nam*

image

My favourite band Sigur Rós released a new album called Kveikur, and I just “had” to have the collectors edition. Somehow the image is upside down :\

image

Bought two other LPS this spring/summer. The Postal Service 10 year anniversary edition, and the new album from Daft Punk, Random Access Memories.

Master thesis is delivered

The reason for the lack of posts is because I’ve been quite busy working with my master thesis that I delivered yesterday! So my summer break have (kinda) started. Need to give a presentation about my thesis sometime between the 5th and 20th of June before I get my grade and diploma. It is very nice to finally be done, but it also feels a bit strange. “What to do now” kind of feeling, as I have worked a lot on the paper the last 5 months. So if you want to read it you can click here, but be aware, it is 121 pages about implementation of editors with textual domain-specific languages. Check out the abstract underneath.

Keywords: ThingML1 , Open-source, Framework, Editor, Integrated de- velopment environment (IDE), Domain-specific language (DSL), Eclipse, RsyntaxTextArea, Eclipse Modeling Framework, EMFText, Xtext. In this thesis there has been a research on different text-editor frame- works that can be easily implemented with a domain-specific language. Several frameworks were tested both by implementing a language and by a comparison of available data. From this we ended up favouring RSyn- taxTextArea and made a fully working editor with the language ThingML. Features implemented were syntax highlighting, code suggestion/comple- tion, outline/syntax tree, and error-reporting. These selected features were chosen by having a survey of which gathered information on what kind of editors developers use, what kind of features the editors supports and what features that were used.

You may be wondering what I’m going to do next, and part of me are doing the same, but I have some projects that I would like to do. Since I have three months before I start working again I think I should be able to finish them all, *crossing fingers*. Also, I will write more about my job in August.

Following is a list of summer projects 2013!

  •  Blog! My draftlog is pretty big, so expect a new post each day the coming weeks.
  • More bloging, want to do at least one “songweek” and one “vinyl week” the coming month.
  • Code! I have a lot of coding projects that I want to get done with. For now I’m working on a game and learning a new language called Lua (with the framework Löve2d) which is really fun, plus I have some Heroclix apps that needs to be upgraded. So we’ll see how that goes.
  • I’m also still working on my NTE car, I’ve decided to upgrade the motor to brushless instead of the brushed. It wasn’t good enough for the big 1/8 car, but it fit perfectly in my old Tamiya FF-01. So we’ll see how much money I can gather. I still have the g-force program to code, so that is going to be fun.
  • Speaking of RC cars. I’ve been filming jumps and driving with my buggy so I’m hoping to be able to put together a little film. Jumping in 240 fps looks very cool!

I think that is all.

Blog vacation

As most vacation, and this is not an exception. I end up neglecting my blog. Not because I want to, but I don’t feel like sitting down and writing something. It’s okey to post some pictures and videos now and then, but I use extra time to do it. If you check when I uploaded my pictures to Flickr and when I post it here, there is some hours in between. So that was my little excuse for not posting that much.

Since I’m not posting much, you’ve missed out a bit. As my last serious post was 19th of June about a Munny competition and a little update about me going on vacation and getting some flowers. The major things are that I bought myself a PS3 and finally a PS2, I’ve had a stand at Desucon with my company, and some more vacation. Continue reading

It’s been three days…

Wow, I’ve kinda forgotten all about my blog the last three days. Feel a bit ashamed, but I’ve been a bit busy and a bit lazy. So I’m sorry, in good news, the last post was my 900th, so in 99 post I’m hitting the 1000th! How cool isn’t that?! Guess I need to find some awesome way to celebrate it. Not sure though, but please give me some tips in the comment field.

Not sure if you remember my Backloggery profile, but I’ve started to update it a little bit, and hopefully I’ll get around to add all my games to it. I also noticed that some of the ratings are a bit off. And since we’re talking about games, I need to update my project page and collection page on this blog. I also see that I need to change my theme to a more summer-like one. As always I want to make a new theme, but we’ll see how that goes. Probably just changing to the one I had last year.

Hum..think I ran out of stuff to write about. So blog you later.

Summer is soon over

Summer is soon over, and it haven’t quite been the summer I was expecting it to be. First of all I thought I would have a lot more free time to do whatever I cared to too, and secondly, I was afraid I would be a bit alone whole of July since my best friend moved. I also hoped to be able to lower my kitchen roof and dig in my parents garden (my mom wants a bigger platform (dunno what it’s called in English)). Fun fact, none of them happened. It’s been very boring not have had all the free time I was hoping for, and not been able to helping out at home, but the good thing is that I met a new girl. She is a wonderful girl too, full of happiness and self-confidence. She’s also funny to be with and a bit whimsy. And I really like every part of her.

So, back to the boring stuff. I’ve been working nearly everyday of this vacation, that’s why there haven’t been that much posts. I also haven’t felt like writing either. Guess that’s a very bad combination. Continue reading

My life

It’s time to tell you a bit about my last days. I’m finally done with all my exams and my summer vacation have started. Which means that I can do what ever I want. I’ve also got my work plan for this summer and they (Smart Club) want me to work a lot. Everyday with of course two days of every week.  That means a lot of money, but also not that much time of. That sucks, but guess it’s all about growing up. No more two months summer vacation. Other than working, I’m going to practice my skills with Java, and I’m aiming to make three games and one demo (for Solskogen 09). The first game is the Chaogotchi game that I’ve mention before. Need to get it done, and the two others is probably going to use the same engine, but it is two project that I’m working on with two different groups. Going to be fun! Planning to start tomorrow to play around with some 3d cubes and such, and we’ll see how it goes from there.

I’ve also went to my cabin with my mother and brother. Took sometime off, which was nice. Plus we cleaned out of the shed, so now all the crap we don’t need is gone! My brother and I also hit some balls out into the lake where our cabin is. That was fun, we also tried to find them again, which was a rather cold experience. Since we’re talking about golf, I was playing a nine hole with my brother, uncle and cousin yesterday. It went really well, and I’m just a couple of points from reaching the “normal” score. Also called par. A funny thing happened after we where done and we where gonna walk of the ninth hole. As I approached my cousin from behind while he was holding his putter with the head up, he suddenly and quickly turned around. As I was to slow to reacted he ended up hitting me by accident with his putter. It was a really hard hit so I started to bleed, a lot. So my brother helped me down on the ground so I could lay down and the blood could bleed backwards away from my eyes. So then we drove of to the emergency to check if I had gotten an concussion and to sew my two “holes” in the head. Waiting for the doctor to check me out took some time, but when he finally arrived it all went rather quick and he stated that I didn’t have a concussion (which is awesome), but that I had to sew 5 stitches to cover up on of the “holes”. The other one he just used some strips to tighten it. So that’s how my yesterday was. Rather fun and a bit painfully. Mostly because I was being a man and getting sewn without anesthetic. How man isn’t that?!

Today is Monday, and it’s my first vacation day. I’m taking it easy because of the accident yesterday. Was a little trip outside, bought Test Drive Unlimited (played it before) and it’s a lot of fun. My brother is also buying it, so going to be super fun! There is also a lot of track to download from the net! I’ve also played a lot of Minecraft. You should check it out if you haven’t tried it yet! I’m also thinking about buying a Playstation 3, as they are getting rather cheap now. We’ll see how the week goes…

A hole in my sock

Some nights I just can’t get to bed early. This is one of these nights. Been to work today, after that I went straight to play squash. I was in another Squash competition. Club “championship”. Didn’t go as well as last time, second last, but it’s fun. And that the most important. Plus I have an excuse, my shoes are really slippery. So didn’t get any good grip. After the competition we went to an bar at the campus and ate pizza. yummy! So now I’m back at the apartment. A funny is that I forgot my keys at work, so had to cycle back to get them when I got home. That sucked.

I’ve also downloaded and installed Windows 7. Looks good. I think (or just believe) it starts a little faster than Vista. Haven’t notice much different yet, but I’ll let you know when I do. I’ve also changed my mind about the new theme. I’m thinking about sticking with the theme I have now, and only change the colors. Going to be much better. Hopefully I can start with it tomorrow, since I’m not going to do what I had planned.

World of Goo this summer

There is some news over at World of Goo, and what news. Read them here, or head over to 2DBoy.

World of Goo will be finished THIS SUMMER. :) The precise release date depends on whenever our publishers think is best, offset by mysterious submission processes, humor translation, and floating point rounding rules. But here’s what I do know:

1. We got through ESRB with a rating the whole family can enjoy! Muahahaha.

2. We got a brave new 2D Boy Paul to help look for bugs, and make sure all the Goo tastes just right.

3. Everything is getting translated into 5 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German

4. There were some rumors, so just to confirm: Yes, the Wii version will have multiplayer co-op play in every single level. Additional players can join in or leave at any time. We have not tried (yet) on any child specimens, but I think this will be a very good mode for parents playing with offspring.

5. We submitted an early test submission to Nintendo so they can let us know ahead of time if we’re missing anything, spelling Nintendo wrong, etc.

6. We’ll likely be doing a final round of beta. I’ll post more about beta volunteering on the forum a bit later when the beta builds are ready.
